AWS and Microsoft Azure Going Wild in Building Data Centers
As the data centers in the world are growing in number and size,
there is a point of concern for the people living on Earth. The two giants of
cloud storage Amazon and Microsoft are competing with each other in launching
as many data centers as they can. Resultantly, AWS (Amazon Web Services) has
launched a data center in Bahrain, yes you read it right, it is Bahrain. Azure Cloud storage is going to the unpaved
paths really, with no destination in sight.
I know what you guys will be thinking about, data storage
needs the systems to remain cool in order to perform well. Whereas, in the
Middle East, heat can be the biggest opponent in operating a data center. Don’t
you think they must have figured out a plan before the announcement? Definitely
they would have made a feasible plan and must have announced it after getting
complete confidence in the plan.
The main point of concern is that after establishing data
centers in the Scandinavian countries where cooling was not a problem due to
the low temperatures outside, what would you say about the decision to move to
the desert.
Cloud Storage Being
Tested to Limits
Is it just a test mission, or is it posing authority to the
competitors that we have the technology to run data centers anywhere on this
planet. Whatever it is, one thing is for sure that it is not going towards the
right direction in AWS Storage Gateways.
If this is the pace with which these giants keep on
competing and challenging their limits, it is a possibility that they will run
out of space on earth. The question is whether it was needed that much, or was
Amazon only trying to prove the point that they have the superior technology
and expertise.
It is Not About Who
was the first
It is claimed that AWS came up with this idea a couple of
years ago, in 2017. On the other hand, Microsoft has announced building a data
center in the Phoenix in the current year, i.e. 2019. No matter who was the
first and who stood second to come up with the idea of building data center in
regions with extreme heat, was that mandatory.
It is not really known that what drove these companies to
move towards desert. Highly optimistically speaking, we can say that cloud Archiving Storage providers have started
realizing the problem of shortage of space. They might be foreseeing the future
problem and due to that, they have migrated towards deserts where human beings
are not likely to reside as in the urban areas.
Conclusion
Analogically speaking too, a cloud is more needed in the
desert than in any other part of the world. AWS and Microsoft are not only
competing with each other but are also defining the future of cloud storage. It is their
responsibility to take the right decisions which are not only beneficial for
the industry but also for humanity.
