Deduplication
One of the features of a NAS Storage that is worth discussing among all is the deduplication feature which is also abbreviated as dedup in the niche. It is a data service that allows the system to delete the excessive or unnecessary and redundant copies of the same file that is stored multiple times on the same system. Whenever a data backup is made, the copies of the unchanged files are also created which take more and more storage space.

Dedup function allows the system to make the maximum use of the available storage space by deleting the duplicated copies of the data which has not changed. In this way, storage space is not fully used before it should be and the addition of storage nodes and devices can be delayed. It saves the unnecessary costs of the enterprise.
Automated NAS Tiering
All the data which is stored in the storage is not of the same level of importance and the frequency at which different types of data is used is also not the same. Therefore, there is a need to manage the storage in such a way that the system knows which data should be stored wherein the storage space.
For this purpose, the tiering of data is used. Automated tiering makes things even easier for storage administrators because they only have to make the policies once. After the policies have been made, the system itself places the right data at the right tier. The different tiers are normally called hot tier, which contains the data that is most frequently used. Then it is the cold tier in which the data which is not very frequently used, is stored. In the last, there is archival data which is used in the least frequency.
Depending on the frequency data is needed, it is placed in the tiers of the storage automatically. It saves, storage space, storage administrator’s time and effort and other costs as well.

A NAS Appliance hat has a cloud connect feature makes the enterprises to store as much data as they can in a shared or private cloud environment as per its needs. Cloud connect makes NAS appliances a solution in itself that makes it a cost-effective storage device.

It not only saves money for the enterprise but also the time is taken by the storage and IT staff to do the things manually for the purpose of managing the storage in an effective manner.
